Follicle Stimulating Hormone, or FSH, is produced in the pituitary gland inside your brain. This hormone stimulates the production of eggs along with a hormone called estradiol during the first half of your menstrual cycle. FSH reaches your ovaries via your blood stream, signaling your ovarian follicles to grow and develop. The egg or ovum, which is vital for fertilization to occur, is released when your ovarian follicles reach the point of maturation. A high FSH can cause your eggs to become unhealthy, thereby decreasing your chances of having a baby. Attempting to get pregnant when your eggs are unhealthy can cause you to have a miscarriage or cause your baby to have birth defects. One of the most common reasons FSH levels are increased is a lack of blood flow to the ovaries. By employing all the natural methods below, you may be able to improve the condition of your ovaries and lower your FSH levels.

Step 1

Cut out foods high in sodium and caffeine to strengthen and support your kidneys. This will help lessen the strain on your kidneys and maintain healthy normal kidney function which is important for hormone balance including FSH.

Step 2

Consult a naturopathic doctor (ND) about herbal body cleansing. An herbal body cleanse includes taking herbal supplements such as ginger root capsules to help flush out toxins and chemicals that affect hormone levels in your body. Ginger can also stimulate your metabolism and blood circulation while flushing out harmful toxins. This in turn will strengthen your ovaries and help lower the amount of FSH your body makes. The recommended dosage for ginger root is one 500 mg tablet taken once a day.

Step 3

Exercise daily for one hour to help stimulate and improve your blood circulation. When your blood circulation is enhanced, your ovaries receive more oxygen, nutrients and hormones. When this happen your endocrine system produces less FSH. Exercises such as aerobics, swimming and yoga are excellent exercises that enhance blood flow to through your reproductive organs.

Step 4

Try traditional Chinese medicine, or TCM. Acupuncture and herbs are part of the TCM treatment, which can help lower your FSH levels. Acupuncture can help stimulate your blood flow, allowing more oxygen, hormones and nutrients to reach your ovaries and help them function normally. The herbal medications can help nourish your reproductive organs. Make an appointment with an acupuncturist for more information.
