Door molding is the trim that runs along the top and sides of your door frames. It is often made of wood, but can be made of other materials. The P90X chinup bar is designed to mount inside your doorway. To hold the P90X chinup bar, the doorway must be between 24 and 32 inches wide and have molding that is between 5 and 6.5 inches thick. The included brackets sit above the molding and the chinup bar wraps around the molding.
Step 1
Measure the top of your doorway and subtract 13.75 inches, since this is the distance between the two J-brackets. Divide the result by two. This tells you how far in from each edge you should set the J-brackets. For example, if your door is 30 inches wide, 30 minus 13.75 equals 16.25 inches. Divide 16.25 inches by two and you get 8.125 inches. Position each J-bracket 8.125 inches in from the edge of the door frame.
Step 2
Measure the distance between the J-brackets. They need to be 13.75 inches apart. Adjust the brackets if necessary.
Step 3
Hold the J-bracket in place and use a pencil to mark the four drill holes. Repeat with the other bracket.
Step 4
Use a ¾-inch drill bit to drill the holes.
Step 5
Insert the included wall anchors into the drill holes.
Step 6
Hold the bracket in place and insert the four wall screws, which are included with the chinup bar. Repeat with the other bracket.
Step 7
Hold the P90X chinup bar on the other side of the doorway, opposite the J-brackets.
Step 8
Dip the horizontal support bar under the frame, lift it up, and hook it onto the J-brackets.
Tips and Warnings
- Test out the chinup bar after installation by grabbing the bar and lifting your feet a few inches off the ground. If it begins to collapse, put your feet on the ground to save yourself from falling.
- The P90X chinup bar can handle users up to 300 lbs. Your doorway needs to be sturdy enough to support your weight. Don't hang upside down on the P90X chinup bar.
