I'm Jeremy Shore for livestrong.com and these are natural ways to gain elasticity in the ab area. Elasticity is the ability of the muscles to return to their original shape after they've been stretched. Building elastic strength in the abdominal region can improve performance and help you avoid injury. Strengthen and stretch the abdominals by doing a full range of motion sit-up, equally concentrating on the eccentric and concentric portions of the exercise. Let me show you how. To strengthen and lengthen the abdominals, I want to perform a full sit-up. Let me demonstrate. I'm going to roll down to my low back and supported by the ball. From here, I'm going to keep my hands on my thighs, head's in a neutral, neutral position, I'm engaging the core. Then, I'm going to slowly lower my trunk all the way back until the back of my head touches the ball, allowing the hands to slide along my thighs. And then, beginning, beginning at the head, I'm going to lift the head and then the shoulders, then pull up with the core all the way up to the top and then repeat. Slowly lowering one vertebrae at a time until I get back into that fully extended position, taking advantage of the full range of motion, strengthening and lengthening that movement pattern creating elasticity throughout the abdominal complex.
