I'm Jeremy Shore for livestrong.com, and these are good moves for overall toning. Total body exercises are the absolute best thing to do to achieve overall toning. Look for exercises that combine the upper and lower body in one movement to activate more muscle fibers. This will increase your metabolism, challenge your cardiovascular system and build lean muscle. Here are three great total body exercises you can incorporate. Okay, so, for our first total body exercise, we're going to take two dumbbells; we're going to stand tall, your palms facing forward, chest up, abs drawn in and glutes tight, with feet about shoulder width apart. From here, we're going to go into a squat and curl in unison. So, we're going to push our hips back and as we lower our body, we're going to curl the weights up pausing briefly at the bottom, then standing back to the beginning position. So, curl and squat, uncurl and stand. Keep the abs drawn in, keep the chest up, pushing the hips back. Make sure that you're maintaining full contact with the floor with both feet throughout the movement. And perform eight to twelve repetitions. Next, total movement pattern is the split stance with the row. So, we're going to get into a split stance or lunge position, we're going to hinge forward at the hips, keeping the abs tight, arms are down alongside the lead leg. As you row the dumbbells up along your sides, you're going to drop the back knee into that lunge position, squeezing the shoulder blades back together. As you return the dumbbells to a starting position, extend the trail leg and repeat. Hmm! Whew! Do eight to twelve repetitions and then switch sides. Next, well finish with a power move called the log toss using a Dynamax medicine ball. Position yourself with the ball between your ankles; you're going to drop your hips down, keeping your chest and eyes forward and up. From here, with one explosive movement, you'll move into a triple extension releasing the ball to a partner who can catch and return the ball or into a smooth reinforced wall that will look just like this. Reset, butt down, chest up, eyes forward and finish in a fully extended position with ankles, knees and hips. I'm Jeremy Shore for Livestrong, and this has been great total body moves that you can use to get tone.
