Hello, my name is Amber Nimedez-Lyftogt with LIVESTRONG.COM, and today I'm going to teach you how to do a gymnastic spin. So, this one that I'm going to teach is a handstand pirouette and if you've never done it before, I would suggest maybe learning how to do a handstand first. So, that's what I'm going to teach you. So, the first thing that you're going to do is basically, you're going to start off with whatever leg is comfortable for you to be in front and you're going to put your hands down and you're going to keep your back leg up and then you're going to stand up, arms up nice and tall. And then you're going to do it again; and you're going to do this drill about ten times. And I'm actually going to have you do it on the other side as well. Arms up, get yourself down, keep the back leg up and then up. And then again, and then back down. Okay. If you already know how to do a handstand, then you can go ahead and practice that. So, we're going to do a couple of handstands just for warm up, and then right back down. And while you're in that handstand, you want to really think about keeping a nice hollow tight body position. So, the drill that I want you to practice is on the mat. In a hollow body hold, legs out nice and tight, arms out and you're really going to extend your arms up nice and tall, strong arms and then release. Push your arms up and release. So, you're doing sort of like a shoulder shrug, up and then down and then the hollow body position is here, and then right back down. So, you're going to do ten of each. We're going to start down here. Your hands in the handstand right here and you're going to take one hand; I'm a, I'm a lefty in gymnastics, so I'm going to take my left hand and I'm going to flip it all the way around. And then, you're going to take the right hand and flip it over to the other side. Okay. So, basic movement, lift up left hand and then take the other hand around. Or, if you're a righty, you'll go ahead and do right and then you'll go left. And then you're going to repeat that. So, flip and flip. And then one more time to complete the full spin, and go left. So, I would suggest practicing the spin against the wall, but I will show you what it look like. So, you're in your handstand, pick up the left, right, left, right. And those are some drills that you can do to help you achieve a gymnastic spin. My name is Amber Nimedez-Lyftogt with LIVESTRONG.COM.
