Hi, I'm Denise Druce for LIVESTRONG.com. Let's look at some exercises that target the waist. We'll talk about the muscles in the front, side, and back of the body. When working the core there are three major muscle groups to think about. So we've got the rectus abdominis in front. We've go the transverse abdominis that wraps around. And we've got the erector spinae in the back. And it's important to work all of those muscles equally when trying to shrink your waist and have a smaller core. So lets take a look at three exercises. One is the traditional crunch. So lets start with a basic crunch lifting and lowering. Fingertips on the back of the head and just pulling the navel into the spine. This is going to work your rectus abdominis. Nice strong muscle in the front of the body. The second thing we can do is take the feet a little bit wider and cross the elbow toward the opposite knee. This is going to work our obliques. We are going to pull the abdominals in nice and tight so that we are feeling that transverse abdominis wrap around us. That muscle that goes all the way around. And then to work the muscles in the back we'll come around onto our belly. So we are just laying on our belly and lifting and lowering to strengthen the muscles of the lower back. So three great ways to shrink your waist. That was a look at how to measure inches lost in the waist. I'm Denise Druce for LIVESTRONG.com.
