Hi, I'm Denise Druce for LIVESTRONG.com. Let's take a look at the effects of toning. I'll show you a great exercise for your biceps and triceps. When we start lifting weights our muscles respond by not only getting stronger but getting tighter, firmer together. So when you start lifting weights it's a good idea to begin with light weights and do a lot of repetitions and then work up to heavier weights with fewer repetitions. A good rule of thumb is start with about 12 repetitions and then as you can do those repetitions begin to add weight. So lets take a look at an exercise that works biceps and triceps. So we're gonna hinge from the hips, put our hips back, our chest forward, curl the biceps up, and then press back. So this is a great way to increase toning and strength in the front and the back of your arms, starting with lighter weight and working up to heavier weight. That was a look at the effects of toning.
