I'm Dave Dreeas, here at Arizona Training Lab in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm going to talk about the best exercise to strengthen muscle: The squat, and the deadlift. The squat and the deadlift are great exercises to target your lower body. The squat is going to focus more on the quadriceps, while the deadlift is going to target more of your posterior side -- your hamstrings and your glutes. When performing the squat, make sure that you guys have good form. You're going to take a barbell, you're going to place it on your traps, upper part of your back. Your feet are going to be shoulder-width apart, and your weight's going to be on the balls of your feet and your heels. Your toes are really just going to help stabilize and balance. Now, remember, when you drop your hips and go down, go as low as your mobility allows you to, which could be to parallel, or below parallel. You're going to explode up, and you're going to repeat that motion for however many reps are required. The deadlift is a technical lift, so there's a couple things to keep in mind. Make sure that you guys have an alternate grip, which is one hand over the top of the bar, the other hand underneath the bar. Keep your chest up nice and high, and keep your back neutral. What you're going to end up doing is, you're going to pull the weight up towards your hips. When doing that, you're going to bring your hips through, contracting your glutes to finish off the lift. You're going to then slowly lower the bar back down to the ground. You're going to repeat this four reps. The squat and the deadlift are two great exercises to strengthen muscle.
