Hi, I'm Teresa, and welcome to My Fresh Kitchen. Today, I want to talk to you about energy drinks that might not make you jittery. You can find energy drinks almost anywhere you go today. The problem with energy drinks is they're not really regulated the way your other beverages are. So yeah there's a nutrition label on there that will show you how much sugar is in there and how many calories, but they don't have to disclose the amount of caffeine, nor do they have to disclose the other herbal supplements that are in there. And the combinations of those ingredients aren't really well understood. Plus, when you take high amounts of caffeine, and put them with high amounts of sugar, it's actually dehydrating for your body, which doesn't serve the purpose of having a beverage. So if you wanted to have an energy drink, and you didn't want the jitters, look for one that has moderate caffeine, which would be about 100 milligrams, which is closer to your average up of coffee. But better yet then, why not pick a beverage that actually has other health benefits for you? A great example of this would be a green juice. Super high in oxygen, all we did was take a bunch of vegetables and put them in the juicer. Having this oxygen in your blood immediately gives you energy without any added sugar. Another great option is coconut water. High in electrolytes and water, which is really hydrating for your body, without any artificial sugar. And lastly of course, there's nothing wrong with a cup of coffee. It will give you about 100 milligrams of caffeine. And if you wanted to sweeten it, you could have a teaspoon of sugar, and you would be just fine.
