I'm Coach Morgan, and today I'm gonna talk to you about ways to motivate runners. Runners endurance sport is a mental game. If you don't have a mental strategy going into your training and racing, you're going to suffer from lack of motivation. The first and most important part of staying motivated as a runner is having a specific goal for your training and your season. Whether it's weight loss, finishing a specific race, or even competing at a higher level, having that goal is going to give you the motivation you need to continue with your training. Once you've selected a goal, it's important that you find ways to keep it in your mind during those tough training sessions, or on those days where you wake up and you just don't want to get out the door. For example, visualization is a great mental technique when you're in training. So just being out on the course, or laying in bed and being able to close your eyes and visualize yourself winning that race, crossing the finish line, hugging your loved one weighing 30 pounds less, can be such an effective way to motivate yourself. This is the basis of all mental motivation for endurance athletes. At the end of the day it all comes down to the goal and our ability to keep our mind on it. The next step is tracking your progress, are you getting closer to your goal? When you see those improvements, take note of them and celebrate. This will keep you moving towards the goal that you've set for yourself at the beginning of the season.
