I'm Lisa Thiel, and this is how to use gym equipment for beginners. The gym is one of the most intimidating places that you can step foot into. Today, I'm going to show you two pieces of equipment that you can use to get started on your fitness journey. The kettlebell is a great piece of equipment to start with when you first start going to the gym. There are several things you can do, but today we're going to talk about the Russian swing to get started. This is a great movement because it incorporates core strength, little bit of legs, and it gets your heart rate up. So, find a lightweight kettle bell in your facility. To get started, we're going to put the weight right between our legs, our back is nice and flat. Simply deadlift it up. And then, again, all the power's going to come from my hips, so I'm going to keep the weight close to my thighs, shift my hips back, and just get the bell swinging. So, everything is engaged, my hips are rocking back and forward, and that's what's propelling the weight upward. So, I'm not using my hands for anything other than straps to propel the weight. Another great exercise for a beginners entering the gym is the medicine ball Russian twist. It utilizes your arms and your core, and all you need is a simple medicine ball. Get a lightweight ball, get yourself on the floor. I want you to lean back to where your abs are tight. Feet can stay on the floor. And then, you're going to pick up the medicine ball, rotating your torso to one side, and then back to the other.
