Hi, I'm Lia Montelongo and this is how to relieve lower back tension. Back tension comes from weak abdominal muscles and overuse and strain of lower back muscles. This happens a lot as we age and get older and don't take care of our center, core and lower back. I'm going to show you two exercises that are going to help alleviate lower back tension. The first exercise I'm going to show you is a forearm hold. You're going to start by placing your forearms onto a mat, bending at the elbows, bringing your feet just hip distance apart. Go ahead and lift your body into a straight line position as best as you can and hold for a count of five, pulling in your stomach as tight as you can. Slowly lower down onto your knees and lift back up and hold for a count of five. You're going to repeat this ten times. The next exercise I'm going to show you is called a hip lift. This is a great exercise to help alleviate lower back pain and to also increase and strengthen your glutes. You're going to place your hands along the sides of your hips, press your weight into the feet and press your hips high into the sky. When you come to about 90 degrees, you're going to activate your glutes and squeeze as tight as you possibly can. Make sure you are breathing, inhaling, exhaling, hold for a count of five, slowly lower down to a hover and repeat.
