I'm Sara Holliday, and I'm going to demonstrate tips to breathe better. Most of the day we walk around with a shallow breath and this can really effect the way that we feel. It actually causes us to feel more stressed. I'm going to demonstrate a yoga breath where you're going to breathe fully and completely and just by breathing this way you're going to feel more relaxed, peace and calm. Get in a comfortable seated position. You might want to place a towel underneath you or a pillow or if you are really uncomfortable sitting on the floor you can sit on a chair and what I'd like you to do is before we breathe nice and deep let's roll out some stress and tension that we are carrying in our neck and shoulders. So you're just going to inhale, roll your shoulders up and exhale out and repeat the breath a couple of times opening up the shoulder and neck area where most of us carry tension. After you repeat a couple of times, then relax your arms. I'm going to extend my hands out over the tops of my knees and touch my forefinger and thumb but you can sit in a different position if that's more comfortable for you. I'm going to close my eyes and I'm going to teach you the yoga breath. So with your eyes closed, you're going to inhale in through your nose and out through the back of your throat with your mouth closed. So it sounds like a Darth Vader breath as you press your tongue on the roof of your mouth. So inhaling and exhaling out the back of your throat and as you breathe I want you to imagine that you are talking the breath all the way from your sit bones up to the top of your head. And once you take it up to the top of your head exhale the breath all the way down your spine to your sit bones once again. Repeat the breath several more times inhaling and exhaling. Repeating for about eight to ten more deep breaths. After you breathe nice and deep, slowly resume your natural breath and notice how much more relaxed you feel in your mind, body and spirit and when you are ready, slowly open your eyes.
