Hi, I'm Sean Jackson, and this is what the clincher is on a bicycle. Whenever you purchase a bike it's a big investment so you want to make sure you know exactly what equipment you are buying. There's two main types of bicycle tires, clinchers and tubulars. Clinchers are what we normally think of and what the majority of people purchase when they get a bike. This is a tube that's inserted into a tire and then the tire is inserted into the lip of the rim of the wheel. Tubular tires on the other hand, are a tube that is already encased inside the tire itself and sew in. The tire is then glued to the rim of the wheel. There's actually very little reason to buy a tubular tire over a clincher tire. There is slightly less rolling resistance with tubular tires, but clinchers are way easier to remove and change flats with. So the majority of people are not going to ever buy anything other than a clincher.
