Hi, this is Jamie Glick. I'm going to talk about how to build muscle in the abdominal region. Most people have fitness and weight loss goals and many of them include losing, losing weight and building tone in their abdominal region. So this will show you some basic moves to get you started. When you are talking about the abdominal region you're talking about a few major muscle groups. The muscle group in the front that connects your ribcage to your pelvis is called the rectus abdominis. And this is six small box like looking muscles that go from the top to the bottom. And this is usually seen as a six pack of muscles that is very desirable. The sets of muscles on the side are called the obliques. And you have two different kinds of obliques. You have an internal and external oblique. These muscles are responsible for tilting you to the side. Also assisting in rotating you from one side to the other. So a few basic exercises we're going to go over are the abdominal curl which works the rectus abominis in the front. The front plank which also works the rectus abominis in the front. And then the side bridge or side plank which will work both sides of the oblique muscle groups.
