Hi, my name is Leif Becker, and today we're going to talk about how to choose a karate gi. When choosing a karate gi, it's important to think about four different things: weight, feel, style and trim. One of the biggest factors when picking out a karate gi of course is the weight of the uniform. Think about whether you're training in warmer climates or cooler climates and how that karate uniform is going to work with your body and body temperature. Many of Martial Artists that I know who are working in warmer climates will use a lighter weight uniform, while others may use a heavier one, which then brings us to feel. How does your Martial Arts uniform feel? How does it feel as you're working out? One of the biggest things you want to make sure you don't do is make sure that your Martial Arts uniform isn't too tight. You're going to be doing a lot of movements on the floor and those movements are going to need a lot of flexibility behind how that uniform works. The third of course is style. What Martial Arts are you actually taking? Are you in Japanese style, Okinawan style, Korean style? Each one has its own uniform dedicated to that particular style. And of course the fourth is the trim. How is your uniform trimmed out? What types of characteristics does it hold? This particular one has a black belt for black belts. Does your Martial Arts uniform need a trim to go with the uniform that you're wearing?
