Hey, everybody. I'm chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie. And today I want to talk to you about total cholesterol and how to lower it if you are at risk of high cholesterol. Now we create cholesterol naturally. It's just a function of being a human being. The problem is sometimes our bodies create more cholesterol than is healthy. And high cholesterol can lead to heart disease and increase your risk of stroke. So in order to avoid that from happening there are a lot of things that you do with what you put in your mouth. So I want to talk to you a little bit about the things that you can do to take your health into your own hands. One thing is to increase your fiber intake. Good quality fiber such as oats and quinoa, millet, things of that nature can help to lower your cholesterol. Even a snack like this that's made with plant sterols that are proven to help lower your cholesterol are really good for you. Another way is to make sure that you're getting good quality fish oil. Now this is a great supplement that you can drink that's flavored with orange. So it's a lot more palatable than regular fish oil. But you can drink that and that fish oil is great for heart health. Drinking tea such as Kombucha. Kombucha is a fermented drink and it's made with green tea and this is also a good way to manage your cholesterol. And lastly it's really important to watch your saturated fat intake. If you're eating a diet that's rich in fatty meats, cream, cheese, things of that nature, that can increase your cholesterol. So opting for different drinks and dairy products that are made with plant based fats are a good option. So you can find vegan forms of cheese, milk, mayonnaise, almond or coconut milk that are made with plant based fats instead of saturated fats which come from animal fat, can all help to manage your cholesterol safely.
