Hi. I'm Christine King. Let's talk about how to work out your back muscles with dumbbells. Dumbbells are an excellent tool to work both your upper and lower back muscles and working your back muscles is important because it helps you maintain proper posture and many people overwork the front muscles. So, today, we're going to show you different exercises to target both the upper and lower back. So, first, we want to work into a row with dumbbells, staggered stance, slightly leaned over from the hip. What you'll do is keep a neutral spine, with your eyes looking at the floor, and just row your elbows out behind you, pinching the shoulder blades together. Perform 15 to 20 reps. The next exercise also works the upper back and that's an upright row. So, standing with a parallel stance, just hold the dumbbells with the palms facing your thighs and row your elbows up to the ceiling. It's very important that your elbows stay higher than your hand during this activity. Same idea, work up to 15 to 20 reps before you increase your weight. Next, we want to get a little bit of the lower spine and that's doing a dead lift. Basically, you'll stay in that parallel stance, keeping your back flat and your knees slightly bent, just hinge forward from the hip as far as you can without the spine rounding, engage the abdominal muscles and come up to a straight back. Those exercises will help you to work your back muscles with dumbbells.
