Hi, I'm Kari Pearce. I'm a personal trainer at The New York Health and Racquet Club. I'm going to show you how to sit up with your hands. It is important to be able to know how to sit up with your hands because it helps with core strength which is essential in gymnastics. When doing a sit up with your hands, make sure to keep your back straight. Perform a sit up with your hands by starting laying flat on the ground. You can choose to have your legs straight or bend. We will show both. Start with the arms right by your side laying flat on the ground. You will then start the movement by lifting your shoulders off the floor, using your core. Once your core can no longer help you sit up, then you will start to use your hands. You will use the palms of your hands first and then move to the fingertips so you can finish the sit up all the way. You can also perform a sit up with your hands by bending your knees. This is easier if you have lower back pain. Start this exercise by laying flat on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor. You will then start the movement by bringing your shoulders up, using your core. Once your core cannot take you any higher, start to use your hands. You will use the palms of your hands first, then your fingers so that you can finish sitting all of the way up.
