Hi, I'm Lindsey Smith, and these are stretching techniques for dancers. Stretching is obviously very important to dancers. It helps to prevent injury, to elongate the muscles, and to aid in strengthening your technique as well as building better extension. Three common easy stretches that we'll begin with today are going to be the hamstring stretch, the butterfly, and the straddle. For the hamstring stretch you're gonna sit with your legs straight out in front of you, your knees are going to be completely straight the entire time. You can either point or flex your feet, arms up and over, straight forward, and hold. I would recommend holding this for about 16 counts. Then for the butterfly sit with the soles of your feet together and you're going to lean straight forward, hold again for about 16 counts. For a slightly deeper stretch gently place your hands on top of your knees and push down. Finally the straddle, sit with your legs as far open as you can, point your toes, straighten your knees, lean to the right, hold for 8 counts, lean to the left, hold for 8 counts, and then straight forward. Again, hold for about 16 counts. These stretches are great they'll help you warm up and like I said they'll help you build better extension and technique.
