Hi my name is Steve Nichipor, professional mountain guide with Bretton Woods Ski Resort and I'm going to show you how to rent a rock climbing wall. Renting a rock climbing wall is a great way to have a fun and adventurous birthday party or team building event. Every wall is different so you'll need to check with gyms in your area to see what they offer. There are three components you need when renting a wall. The wall itself, equipment, and qualified staff or belayers. Here at Bretton Woods we rent our climbing wall for private events, everything you need is included. But some walls may rent the wall to groups that want to use their own equipment or qualified belayers. Some walls will designate a section of their wall as available for rent. Here at Bretton Woods we rent the whole wall when we have a private booking. You want to make sure the section you're renting is appropriate for climbers in your group. For instance, if your group is mostly first time climbers, you'll want to make sure that the wall has enough beginner climbs so that everyone can have a good time. Second, you'll need equipment including harnesses, ropes and shoes. If you want to use your own equipment it will likely need to be inspected by the staff of the wall. Last, you'll need qualified belayers or wall staff. If you have experienced climbers in your group, they may be able to take a belay test and do the belaying for your group. At Bretton Woods, the staff do all of the belaying, allowing everyone in your group to climb and enjoy themselves without being stuck belaying the whole time. Another advantage of having professional staff working at your event is that they'll be able to coach beginner climbers allowing them to succeed on more difficult climbs than they would on their own.
