Hi, I'm Stella Metsovas, and today we're going to talk about reproductive heath and the benefits of grapes for the ovaries and the testes. Fertility is a very serious subject and recent evidence suggests actually more positive news as opposed to 20 years ago. Infertility decreased slightly but significantly from 8 and 1/2% of married women to 6% of married women between 1982 and 2010 or nearly 2 and 1/2 million women had problems with infertility in 1982 compared to 1.5 million in 2010. Now what do the benefits of grapes have with the health of the ovaries and the testes? In a study from "The Human Reproduction Journal," researchers found that resveratrol as being a potent inhibitor in the development of endometriosis from cell proliferation. Whoops I almost forgot to tell you about resveratrol. This resveratrol, that's a mouthful, is a potent polyphenol found in the skins of grapes. In men, research found also in "The Journal of Reproductive Toxicology," that resveratrol helps to avoid oxidative damage induced in human semen thereby creating a more favorable environment for fertility. Remember though, the ancestral diet of most rural villages like the Mediterranean diet is the best nutritional program to allow for enhanced fertility because these foods contain resveratrol naturally and the phytonutrients found in grapes are what are known to boost healthy fertility levels.
