Hi, I'm Linden Schaffer, and I'm here to talk to you about why it would be a bad idea to go to bed hungry. Most people think that by going to bed hungry, they are going to be jump starting their weight loss program but actually this is not the case. If you have ever experienced hunger pains before bed, you know trying to get a good night's sleep when you don't feel well, it's just not going to happen. When we go to bed hungry, our body goes into starvation mode. Our metabolism lowers and we try to conserve calories. Our body does this by burning fat instead of muscle which is never a good idea. The best way to make sure that you are not hungry at the end of the day, eat a bunch of small meals throughout the day, about five and make sure they are high in nutrients and low in calories to keep you full. A good side effect of this is that if you have ever experienced heartburn, this will definitely be relieved. If you do find yourself hungry at the end of the day and want to nibble on something before you go to bed, it's best to reach for fruit or nuts. Again something that's very high in nutrients but low in calories. Whether you reach for the healthy food or food that's not so healthy, be careful about how much you eat. If you eat too much of anything right before you go to bed, it will most likely keep you awake.
