JOSH HARING: Hi, this is Josh and today I am going to talk about how to climb a hill. If you are fortunate to live in a beautiful place like I am, there's hills all around. You may ask, what is the difference between a hill and a mountain? Well, the neat thing about hills is they can get you in shape for mountains. Hills are generally a little bit lesser of a slope and more even path, even terrain and a little bit easier to climb than mountains. The neat thing about hill training is it gets you a little bit of altitude training without having to go too far of a distance. Like with climbing mountains, when you are climbing hills it is important that you always let people know where you're going. A lot of hill climbing occurs on the way to a rock climbing. That is what we call the approach. When you are approaching the base of the rock climb, whether it is a mountain or just the single route. When you are hill climbing, you are going to wear different footwear. Usually you will use some sort of shoe with a sticky rubber, but the upper is more like a hiking shoe, so it is kind of a hybrid shoe. That sticky rubber is great, because when you are climbing hills you might be in a position where there is a little bit of rock and a little bit of trail, but you want to make sure you have really good traction and really good grip.
