JACKIE SILVER: I'm Jackie Silver with how to make soap to treat acne. Acne can afflict people of any age though it's quite common in the teenage years. Acne can be as simple as a few blackheads and whiteheads or it can be more serious, but nobody wants to suffer with acne. The sebaceous glands in our skin produce oil that lubricates the skin and hair, but these glands can get clogged up, resulting in acne. A pimple forms when bacteria grows out of control and causes inflammation. Check with your doctor before trying any home remedies. It's not difficult to make your own soap you can use for treating acne. You'll need some essential oil from the health food store. Tea tree oil is often recommended for acne. You'll also need some mild soap such as a bar of Ivory. Grate the bar of soap with a cheese grater, being really careful not to cut yourself and place the shavings into a small pot on a low-heat setting and stir continuously until it melts. Once the soap is melted, you can add your essential oil according to the directions on the package. Spray a small dish with a cooking oil spray. Pour the mixture into the dish and let it cool. Once it hardens, you can slide it out of the dish and you'll have your own soap to treat acne. Remember, when making your own soap to treat acne, check with your doctor first before using essential oils.
