Wrinkles are creases or folds in your skin. They can be caused by excessive sun exposure, aging and smoking. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, injectable fillers are substances that are injected into the skin through small needles to fill or plump out wrinkles and depressed scars. They are also used to restore facial volume. Besides injectable fillers, chemical peels can also be used to reduce wrinkles in your skin.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a procedure where the top layer of your skin is burned off to reveal new skin. It can be superficial, medium depth or deep, depending on which parts of your skin it penetrates. The superficial peels peel off only the top layer of your skin, while the other two travel deeper into your skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, chemical peels result in new skin that is smoother, less wrinkled, and possibly more even in color.

Botox

Botox is also known as Botulinum Toxin A. It is used to smooth out wrinkles on your face. Your dermatologist injects it into your face and it works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles needed to maintain the wrinkles, causing the wrinkles to disappear. Botox reduces or removes crows feet near the eyes, frown lines and forehead creases, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Collagen

Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein that is found in various parts of our body including your skin. It gives your skin strength and resilience and also keeps it wrinkle-free. Injectable collagen is prepared from cow skin and is used to fill in wrinkles and lines in your face. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, collagen has been used as an injectable filler since the 1980's. The American Academy of Dermatology says that collagen fillers may be layered with hyaluronic acid fillers to reduce deep wrinkles.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found in your body. Restylane, Juvederm and Captique are soft tissue fillers made from hyaluronic acid. These products are approved for use as wrinkle treatments by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They add volume to wrinkles and lines, helping to minimize their appearance. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, hyaluronic acid products can be used to fill hollow areas of the face and to plump lips as well.
