Pimples are a common nuisance and they tend to leave behind unsightly marks. After a pimple has healed it can leave a brown or red mark or even scarring. There are several products, treatments, and beauty tips with makeup to remove or disguise these unwanted marks.
Exfoliate
Remove dead skin cells that hinder the recovery process of acne marks. Choose an over-the-counter product with an alpha hydroxy acid to treat stubborn marks, such as brown spots caused by pimples. Alpha hydroxy acids are derived from food products such as fruits, sugars, and milk. The most common are glycolic acid from sugar cane, and lactic acid, from sour milk. According to MayoClinic.com, they penetrate the top layer of skin, reducing inflammation and removing dead skin cells on the surface, where hyperpigmentation from pimples can occur. They also stimulate new cell growth. giving your skin a new smooth surface.
These products can be purchased in drug or grocery stores. Take a dime-sized amount of cleanser in the palm of your hand and focusing on the problem areas of the face, massage it in with your fingertips. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Exfoliate once a week to help pimple marks fade.
Microdermabrasion
This procedure helps to reduce the appearance of scars and marks caused by pimples. The most common method of microdermabrasion uses tiny crystals that are jetted, through a tube onto the skin, polishing and buffing away the top layer of skin. Another method is to use a rotating diamond-coated wand. This procedure allows for rapid skin cell turnover, bringing new skin to the surface, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
Microdermabrasion can be done by a licensed aesthetician at a spa or by a doctor at a dermatologist's office. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that results from this technique are similar to a light chemical peel and can be done on a lunch break, so you can return to work after a treatment. There is only mild redness afterwards, and treatments can be repeated for better results.
Conceal
Makeup is a great way to camouflage acne marks. First, apply your foundation. Next, choose a cream concealer that is a shade lighter than your natural skin tone and apply gently to the mark using a small concealer brush. If the marks are bright red, use a green concealer first to cancel out the redness. Make sure to pat the concealer on with the brush and not swipe. Set with a translucent face powder, by patting over you face.
