Luxury spas charge their clients top dollar for bath and skincare products made from all natural ingredients. You can make your own all natural products at home, for little or no expense, by using products that you probably stock in your kitchen pantry. Using simple ingredients such as milk, olive oil, sugar and salt, you can create products that exfoliate and sooth your skin or help you relax after a long day. Making them yourself also lets you customize your bath and skincare products to meet your exact needs.
Relaxing Milk Bath
Step 1
Pour 1 quart of whole milk into warm bath water. Add the milk while the water is running to make sure it becomes evenly distributed within the bath.
Step 2
Add two to three drops of lavender essential oil to promote relaxation.
Step 3
Soak in the milk bath for at least 30 minutes. Add more hot water as needed to keep a comfortable warm temperature.
Brown Sugar Olive Oil Scrub
Step 1
Pour 1 cup brown sugar into a small bowl.
Step 2
Add 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil to the sugar. Drizzle the olive oil in slowly, mixing with a fork until it reaches the consistency of thick paste.
Step 3
Pour the brown sugar and olive oil mixture into a small lidded container. Store this mixture in the refrigerator for up to seven days. This scrub can be used on your face and body.
Salt Scrub
Step 1
Pour 2 cups of table salt into a small bowl.
Step 2
Drizzle in approximately 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Add the olive oil slowly, mixing it with a fork until it reaches the consistency of a thick syrup. If the mixture is too thin, add more salt until it thickens.
Step 3
Pour the mixture into a small lidded container. Store this mixture in the refrigerator for up to seven days. Use this scrub only on your feet, knees, or elbows.
Detox Bath
Step 1
Add 2 cups of Epsom salts to a warm bath as the water is running.
Step 2
Pour in 1 cup of baking soda. Use your hand to mix the salt and baking soda into the bath water.
Step 3
Soak in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes.
Tips and Warnings
- Apply extra virgin olive oil directly to your skin after a bath or shower to add moisture to dry skin. Extra virgin olive oil contains naturally occurring antioxidants such as vitamin E and vitamin K, as well as fatty acids, which are thought to improve the texture and moisture level of skin. Extra virgin olive oil can also be added to your bath water to help moisturize skin while you soak.
- You should not use milk as a natural beauty product if you have lactose intolerance or a milk allergy. Be careful when using olive oil in your bath or after shower to avoid slipping when leaving the shower or tub.
