You may be surprised to find out that the body wash you are currently using may contain toxins. These toxins can have serious health effects if they enter your system. Some of these chemicals, such as Ceteareth-20, have cancerous links, according to mypure's chemical checklist. If you are concerned about all of the chemicals that make-up your usual body wash, consider making your own. Many of the items that you need to create a heavenly scented essential oil body wash may already be in your pantry.
Step 1
Rub a bar of unscented castile soap against a food grater. Continue grating until you have approximately 2-cups of grated soap.
Step 2
Pour the grated soap into a medium saucepan. Add ½ cup of water and 3 tbsp. of glycerin to the saucepan.
Step 3
Place the saucepan on the stovetop and set the burner to low heat. Stir the contents of the saucepan using a wooden spoon, as the soap dissolves.
Step 4
Remove the saucepan from the burner and place it on a heat resistant surface when the grated soap dissolves, completely. Shut-off the burner and pour the soap mixture into a mason jar.
Step 5
Add 10 to 20 drops of your favorite essential oil. For a super-scented body wash, add more essential oil. For a hint of scent, add less. Seal the jar tightly and display in your bathroom in between use.
Tips and Warnings
- Add a few drops of food coloring to your essential oil body wash. Feel free to mix the different shades of food coloring to create a new shade of body wash. Tie a ribbon around the mason jar for a decorative touch to match your bathroom. If you do not have bar soap available, use unscented castile soap flakes.
- Do not apply the essential oil body wash to your body while it is hot. Always allow the essential oil body wash to cool down prior to use. Do not pour the hot body wash into a plastic container. Plastic may melt when it comes in contact with the boiled liquid.
