Dandruff is a problem that affects millions of people. It is characterized by dry skin, which flakes off the scalp and collects in the hair or on the shoulders. Many people feel embarrassed by this condition, and because of that, they don't seek treatment for it. Luckily, dandruff is completely treatable with various items that can be found in the home.
Oil
Massage warm oil into your hair and cover it with a warm towel for several minutes to moisturize the head and hair. Leaving the oil on your head overnight will produce better results.
If you decide to sleep with the oil in your hair, make a solution with lemon juice and vinegar, and rub it on your scalp the next morning, using a cotton towel. Leave the solution on your head for about an hour, and then rinse it out, using lemon juice and hot water.
Kitchen
Several remedies can be found in your kitchen. Boil 5 tsp. of used tea leaves and use it as a final rinse for your hair, to give the scalp nutrients. Instead of regular shampoo, clean your hair with baking soda. The baking soda will loosen the dead skin, making it easier to clear the dandruff away.
You can also use a mixture of apple juice and warm water on your hair. Mix together equal parts and rub about 4 tbsp. into your hair. Leave the mixture on for 10 to 15 minutes, and then rinse it away.
Other Solutions
A simple scalp massage can ease your dandruff problem. When you are shampooing your hair, gently rub the shampoo into your scalp to loosen dead skin. Try not to scratch your head, as this can lead to painful sores on your scalp.
Wash your hair twice with dandruff shampoo. Lather your hair with the shampoo, and leave it in while you continue with the rest of your shower. As you are finishing, thoroughly rinse the shampoo out of your hair. Before you turn off the water, shampoo and rinse your hair one more time. The second coating of shampoo will leave dandruff medication in your hair.
The UV rays of the sun have many helpful properties for your scalp. Expose your scalp to the sun for at least 30 minutes per day. Protect the rest of your skin from any harmful rays, and keep the sun exposure on your scalp limited, as the sun can cause burn your scalp.
