The best way to clean blackheads is to develop a skin care routine that both addresses your current blackheads and prevents future ones. If you want to annihilate acne, one-time blackhead removal solutions like masks, scrubs and exfoliants can work to remove the blackheads you have now, but they can also irritate and dry your your skin, which can contribute to future blackheads.

Step 1

Hold a warm compress or washcloth over your face for a few minutes each morning to steam open your pores and loosen blackheads. Wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser. Pat dry.

Step 2

Apply an over-the-counter facial cream that contains a topical retinoid solution or a prescription retinoid like Retin-A. Retinoids slow facial oil production and help unclog stubborn blackhead-containing pores. Apply this daily as it can take weeks for it to dry out the oils in your current blackheads, according to the Daily Glow. Be patient and apply it diligently. With continued use, you will see your blackheads disappear while new ones stop forming.

Step 3

Apply a light moisturizer that doesn't contain pore-clogging oils. Choose a moisturizer that contains sunscreen as retinoids increase sun sensitivity according to Drugs.com.

Step 4

Wash your face before bed. Use a night cream containing benzoyl peroxide to kill any acne-causing bacteria on your skin.

Step 5

Use a cleanser featuring salycylic acid or glycolic acid to help your skin slough off its top layer of dead skin cells. These cells get trapped in your pores and cause blackheads.

Step 6

Repeat this regimen each day as part of your regular skin care routine.
