Large pores are caused by age, genetics or skin problems, according to DocShop.com. People with genetically thick or oily skin develop large pores more often than people with thin or dry skin. Aging also causes pores to become larger when the skin loses its natural elasticity. In individuals with acne, blackheads contribute to the problem, as the pores expand when they become clogged with dirt and oil. Regardless of cause, a home remedy using common household items may help minimize the appearance of large pores when used regularly.

Step 1

Place an egg white into a large mixing bowl. According to Roshni Dayal in her book "Natural Beauty Secrets from India," egg whites tighten the pores and prevent them from becoming clogged.

Step 2

Whisk the egg white vigorously with a wire whisk until frothy, about two to three minutes. Add the oatmeal to the beaten egg white, and stir well to combine. Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed.

Step 3

Cut a lemon in half, and squeeze until you have about 1 tbsp. of juice. Add the juice to the egg and oatmeal mixture, and stir again until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Step 4

Apply a thin layer of the mixture to your face, covering all of your enlarged pores. Relax in a comfortable position for about 20 minutes, allowing the mixture to penetrate your skin.

Step 5

Rinse off the egg mixture with warm water, and rinse again with cold water to close the pores. In her book "Return to Beauty," Narine Nikogosian recommends following the treatment with a light moisturizer to prevent dryness.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use an electric beater on low speed to beat the egg white if you don't have a wire whisk. Although freshly squeezed lemon juice is recommended, you can use bottled juice if you don't have a fresh lemon on hand. Repeat the pore minimizer treatment once or twice a week to keep pores tight, and to reduce their appearance.
  • For the best results, do not use instant or steel-cut oatmeal.
