Fast oxidizers are those who break down carbohydrates quickly and metabolize lean meats and protein foods faster than other metabolic types, says William Wolcott, author of "The Metabolic Typing Diet." Fast oxidizers generally become hungry soon after eating meals of carbohydrates and lean proteins and are built more like skinny, endurance athletes. Diets for fast oxidizers require a reduction in processed carbohydrates and should emphasize proteins, fats and high-purine foods.
Carbohydrates
Fast oxidizers do not do well with meals high in carbohydrates, especially processed and high glycemic carbohydrates. The diet of fast oxidizers should certainly include up to 40 percent of total calories from carbohydrates, as long as the carbohydrate sources are mainly fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Fast oxidizers should limit consumption of fruit juices, sodas, candy, most breads and baked goods to optimize their diets says Dr. Lawrence Wilson on his website.
Fats and Protein
Lean protein sources, like chicken and turkey breast, are commonly considered to be quite healthy, but the fast oxidizer requires more fat and fattier meats than other metabolic types. The fast oxidizer can best benefit from red meats, dark meat chicken, turkey and other fowl, cold water fish, legumes, nuts, olive oil and seeds as the nutrients contained within these heavier foods better support the metabolism.
Purines
Purines are proteins that are essential for energy production in the body. While commonly affiliated with high cholesterol and regarded as unhealthy, the fast oxidizer benefits greatly from purine-rich meats, says Wolcott. Purines are found in heavy concentration in organ meats and wild game like venison, elk and buffalo, which should be consumed frequently in the fast oxidizer's diet. Cold water and fatty seafood like sardines, herring, anchovies and mussels also contain high levels of purines and can be eaten freely in the fast oxidizer's diet.
