Dr. Simeons of Salvator Mundi International Hospital of Italy developed a system for treating obesity with a calorie-restricted diet and using human choronic gonadotropin---hCG hormone therapy. Limiting your calorie intake to 500 calories promotes rapid fat loss while the hCG hormone therapy helps suppress hunger. According to Simeons, this diet therapy along with hCG hormone will force your body to use stubborn fat stores for energy, causing weight loss. By following the limited carb and calorie diet, Simeons says, your body won't store excess carb calories as body fat

Fruits

Fruits are a source of carbohydrates which are restricted on the hCG diet. Your total consumption of fruit is limited to 100 g or 3.5 oz. for the entire day. The diet protocol recommends dividing the 3.5 oz. into three half-servings throughout the day and a whole serving before bed. Recommended fruits on the hCG diet are oranges, apples, strawberries and pink grapefruit.

Vegetables

The intake restriction for vegetables is 3.5 oz. or 100 g, according to HCGdietjourney.com. Recommended vegetables on the hCG diet include asparagus, broccoli, celery, salad, frozen and raw spinach, tomatoes, radishes, cabbage, cucumbers and cauliflower.

Breads and Grains

On the hCG diet, your choice of grains and breads is limited to grissino bread sticks or Melba toast. Two servings are permitted but may not be eaten together. The grissino breadstick is not available in some countries, so Simeons modified the diet to permit Melba toast as an alternative. He says Melba toast is not as psychologically filling as the grissino breadstick.

Meat

All meat must have fat removed prior to cooking and all meats need to be naturally lean. Simeons' recommended meats include veal, fresh white fish, beef, chicken breast, lobster and crab. All meats must be cooked without additional fat.

Free Foods

Simeons doesn't mention any free foods you can eat in quantities you may like while on the hCG diet. All meals are highly structured and should not exceed the prescribed amounts of food. If you miss meals, the calories or foods don't carry over to the next day. Two liters of fluid or more are recommended per day to help control hunger and prevent dehydration. Sugar substitutes and seasonings are encouraged to enhance the flavor of food, but if weight loss stalls, these items must come out of the meal plan, according to HCGdietjourney.com.
