If you are planning to get pregnant you may be hoping to conceive a baby boy. If you are having visions of blue, you can try any number of different foods to increase your odds of conceiving the desired sex. According to F. Rene Van de Carr and Marc Lehrer, authors of Prenatal Classroom: A Parent's Guide for Teaching Your Baby in the Womb, you stand the best chance of success if you begin a diet for a boy at least three months before you get pregnant.
High Sodium and Potassium Diet
Van de Carr and Lehrer suggest that eating a diet high in sodium and potassium is more likely to result in the conception of a baby boy. Add foods rich in sodium and potassium to your daily diet to increase your odds of the diet working for you. Increasing your sodium intake is fairly easy, say Van de Carr and Lehrer, because so many foods contain sodium. Eat more table salt, ham, sausage, luncheon meats, crackers, eggs, seafood and canned soups to easily add more sodium to your diet. Foods that include high levels of potassium include beans, baked potatoes with the skin, mushrooms, spinach, squash, apricots, avocados and peanut butter. Include these in your daily diet, along with higher sodium foods, for the best chance at success.
The Boy Diet
According to Jennifer Merrill Thompson, author of Chasing the Gender Dream, The Boy Diet will decrease the amount of magnesium and calcium in your diet, which will increase your odds of having a baby boy. This diet requires you to cut certain foods out of your diet so you do not consume as much calcium and magnesium as you normally would. While you are trying to conceive, eliminate all dairy products from your diet because they are naturally high in calcium. You will also need to refrain from eating egg yolks and nuts because they contain high levels of magnesium.
High Energy Diet
Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel, authors of What to Expect Before You're Expecting, present information that suggests that eating high-energy foods will increase your chances of having a baby boy. The diet requires that you eat large amounts of cereal, such as Wheaties or Cheerios, during the time you are trying to conceive. This diet also requires you to eat a variety of high-energy foods, or foods with a lot of calories in them, such as peanut butter and energy bars. Add some of these foods and you may increase your odds of conveiving a boy.
