Facial blemishes are an unsightly problem for both men and women. According to the University of Alabama, 43 percent of men in their 20s suffer from acne. While the treatments to eliminate blemishes are generally the same for both men and women, there are some major differences for men. Daily tasks such as shaving can further irritate the skin, thus exacerbating skin blemishes. The key to fighting the blemishes is persistence and using the proper skin-care regimen.
Wash your face in the morning and at night with a skin wash containing a 5 percent solution of benzoyl peroxide. Apply a dime-sized amount to your palm, and massage it over all areas of your face using a circular motion. Rinse your face thoroughly using cold water to remove all traces of the solution, and then pat your skin dry using a towel.
Apply a blemish cream containing benzoyl peroxide once per day, preferably at night. Spread the cream over the affected area in a thin layer. Avoid touching your face or putting on clothing until the cream is dry. Benzoyl peroxide gets deep into the pores and helps regenerate them faster, thus eliminating the blockage that creates blemishes.
Exfoliate the skin once per week to remove any dead skin cells and prevent them from developing into blemishes. Apply a dime-sized amount of a mild facial scrub in your hand. Massage it over the skin gently in circular motions for 60 seconds. Rinse your face thoroughly with cold water, and pat your skin dry with a towel.
