Dark marks on the skin may appear as small freckles or as large patches of discoloration. These marks are known as age spots or liver spots and they are caused by overexposure to damaging ultraviolet rays from the sun. Although they are called age spots, people of all ages can get them. They usually do not go away on their own and may require cosmetic treatments. You can also use fruit acids to bleach them away and help remove the layers of discolored skin.

Step 1

Purchase fresh papaya and lemon at the supermarket and cut them into small chunks or slices. Store them in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer until ready for use.

Step 2

Take a chunk of papaya or a slice of lemon and apply the pulp and juice to the area of discoloration by rubbing the flesh on the skin's surface.

Step 3

Allow the juice to absorb into the skin for at least 10 minutes. If you would like, you can rinse any residue away afterward and pat dry with a towel.

Step 4

Repeat this process once or twice daily for as long as it takes to achieve your desired results. It may take several weeks before you notice a difference.
