A warm bath can get your day off to a stress-free beginning, while bathing about an hour before bedtime can leave you relaxed, peaceful and ready for sleep. Set the stage for your relaxing bath, then fill the tub with comfortably warm water. Set aside at least 30 minutes for your relaxing bath.

Music

Block outside noise with relaxing, soul-soothing music. Try classical music, soft instrumental music or a CD with sound effects such as rain, wind, babbling brook, water fall, bird songs or whales.

Candles

Create a serene atmosphere with a few candles placed around your bathtub or on your vanity counter. Use scent-free candles, or light candles with an aroma that makes you feel peaceful and relaxed.

Lighting

Turn the lights on low. Bright bathroom lights are useful for getting dressed or applying make-up, but won't promote a serene, calming atmosphere. Install a dimmer switch if your bathroom light, if possible. A dimmer switch will allow you to regulate the amount of light in your bathroom.

Bath Tools

Pamper yourself with a soft sponge or a loofah. Use a good quality organic soap with a mild scent such as tea tree or oatmeal, or liquid castile soap.

Essential Oils

Add a few drops of essential oil to the warm bathwater just before you step into the tub. Essential oils won't blend with the water, but will remain on top of the water where they will be absorbed into your skin, according to the University of Minnesota. Relaxing essential oils include jasmine, lavender, rose, bergamot, sandalwood and clary sage. A few drops of whole milk or cream will help disperse the oil while it moisturizes your skin.

Breathe Deeply

Concentrating on deep breathing will allow your entire body to relax, advises the University of Maryland Medical Center. Inhale through your nose, filling your lower chest, working your way up to the top of your lungs. Hold your breath for one to two seconds, then exhale.
