The concept of a liver fat flush was first introduced in 1988 by Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, who then wrote a book solely on fat flushing in 2002. The basic idea, according to Bodybuildingforyou.com, is that your liver is the major fat burning organ in your body and maintaining its health is vital for weight loss. The fat flush diet is broken up into three phases: to detoxify the liver, to lose weight and to maintain changes.

Fat Flushing to Detoxify The Liver

Step 1

Drink two long-life cocktails per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. This cocktail consists of one tablespoon of flaxseed oil mixed with 8 oz. of cran-water. Cran-water is made by mixing four parts water with one part unsweetened cranberry juice. This is thought to cleanse the system and promote the other portions of the diet.

Step 2

Drink 8 oz. of hot water with one half of a lemon's juice mixed in before breakfast. This is another tool thought to cleanse the system and detoxify the liver and kidneys, per Dr. Gittleman.

Step 3

Drink at least 32 ounces of cran-water per day in addition to the morning mixture. According to Diet.com, this is made by mixing one part unsweetened cranberry juice with four parts water. The mixture is a diuretic and is meant to increase urination to speed the flushing of the system.

Step 4

Take GLA supplements two times a day, totalling 360 to 400 mg. According to Diet.com, GLA means Gamma-linolenic acid, which is found in evening primrose oil.

Step 5

Eat 8 oz. of lean protein per day and eat one egg per day. The acceptable lean proteins for the diet plan are fish, lean beef, turkey, chicken or tofu. The design is for most of the fats in the diet to consist of lean protein or high protein eggs.

Step 6

Eat at least two portions of fruit daily and eat at least a few portions of vegetables daily. Diet.com recommends using the fruits as a between-meals snack, which can also curb cravings for other refined sweets.

Step 7

Take one tablespoon of flaxseed oil two times per day. According to Diet.com, this is used to treat inflammation in the respiratory, intestinal and urinary tracts.
