Housework might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of burning calories, but surprisingly, doing chores can be a workout. The American Heart Association recommends doing your own housework instead of hiring a housekeeper and doing your own yard work to increase your physical activity and lead a healthier lifestyle. Step 1

Burn around 100 calories, on average, just by doing everyday activities, such as washing and drying your dishes for an hour, moving your furniture around for 25 minutes, push mowing your lawn for 20 minutes or tidying up and removing clutter for 30 minutes, according to "Health" magazine.

Step 2

Deep clean your bathtub to burn more than 90 calories in as little as 15 minutes, if your weight is around 150 pounds. Grab a sponge and scrub your bathroom floor and tiles to burn 300 calories in 30 minutes.
