The liver filters almost 1.5 liters of blood every minute, cleansing the body of bacteria, viruses, fungi and toxins and helping to fight disease. However, this large organ is also susceptible to infections and accumulating wastes, and it is important to cleanse the liver to maintain the health of the body. Fungi or mold spores that are inhaled through the lungs or ingested through foods can accumulate in the liver, causing a fungal infection. This can lead to slow liver function, infections and even a liver abscess in more severe cases. There are several ways to cleanse fungus from the liver.

Step 1

Consult your primary care physician to check the health of your liver. A blood test and liver scans may be needed to determine a diagnosis. Your doctor may prescribe medications and advise you to eat a liver-healthy diet. Discuss all your treatment options.

Step 2

Purchase your prescription anti-fungal medication. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Anti-fungal medicines target fungus that is in the blood and other parts of the body, as well as the liver, which filters the blood. These drugs may be in tablet, liquid or lozenge form.

Step 3

Eat a liver healthy diet. These include foods that have natural anti-fungal properties, such as garlic, which helps to kill fungus spores in the body. Add more ginger to your diet to increase blood circulation and cleanse the liver of fungus and toxins. Other cleansing foods that promote liver health are apples, artichokes, beets and grapefruit.

Step 4

Drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Drinking fluids helps to flush fungus and toxins from the body to cleanse the liver. Do not over-hydrate; tea, fruit and pure fruit juices also contribute to your daily fluid intake.

Step 5

Do a natural liver cleanse. Try liver cleansing supplements and herbs that gently cleanse the blood and liver. These include drinking a half cup of olive oil per day and taking the herbal supplement milk thistle. Take any herbal supplements exactly as directed and consult your doctor before trying a liver cleanse.
