The stress of the workplace drains energy and may leave you in need of a recharge. Listen to your body's signals to determine when you need to take a break from working to boost your energy levels. In many cases, you will feel more productive after a brief break because recharging your body gives you more focus and energy.

Exercise

You don't need a full exercise session to recharge your batteries. Fit in a quick workout around the office or at your desk to boost your energy and help you focus on your work. If you have time, step away from the office for a brief walk in the surrounding neighborhood. Take advantage of an office exercise room by doing a few weight-training reps. At your desk, stand up when talking, do squats or keep resistance bands and dumbbells handy for quick exercises.

Eat a Snack

A nutritious snack supplies the body with energy to help you recharge during work. Snacks between meals also help keep your blood sugar levels even to avoid hard crashes that create dips in energy. Keep nonperishable snacks, such as a container of nuts, dried fruit or granola bars, in your desk drawer for a quick snack. Pack fresh snacks, including fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and hard-boiled eggs, each day with your lunch. If you feel yourself in need of recharging, reach for one of your healthy snacks.

Step Away

Long stretches of sitting and working tends to drain your body, particularly if the project you're tackling is stressful. To recharge yourself, get up and walk away from your work for a few minutes. Grab a drink from the break room, take a bathroom break or simply walk around the office. When you return to your desk, you are likely to feel more energized and ready to get back to work.

Find Humor

Laughter is a stress reliever and may help energize you at the workplace. Instead of focusing on the difficulties or stress you face at work, find a humorous slant on the situation. A humorous website, magazine article, newspaper column or book is a way to add non-work-related humor to the office. Avoid any humor that makes fun of a particular group of people or a particular colleague, or else you may find yourself being accused of harassment.

Connect with Colleagues

Your colleagues share many similar annoyances or energy-draining stressful situations at the office. Connecting with your colleagues over this common ground can help you recharge yourself and approach the situation from a different point of view. Beyond common ground related to work, getting to know your colleagues on a personal level is a way to recharge at work. A quick chat with a colleague can take your mind off work and relieve stress that is dragging you down.
