Smooth, soft legs are the goal of many beach-bound ladies every summer; however, your legs may bear the battle scars of countless razor nicks and small cuts. Combine scars with dry, dead skin cells and you have bumpy, scaly terrain that could use some tender love and care. Whip up a few natural ingredients to buff and scrub your legs until they almost shine. Slather on some lotion for a smooth, silky softness and be ready to bare your legs with pride.
Step 1
Wet a loofah or sponge with warm water.
Step 2
Sprinkle sea salt over the loofah, heavily coating the surface.
Step 3
Scrub your legs with the salted loofah using long, upward strokes. Start from the base of the ankle and work your way up to the hips.
Step 4
Rinse the legs with warm water.
Step 5
Mix together 1 cup of oatmeal with enough water to make a thick paste.
Step 6
Rub the oatmeal paste along the legs, massaging the skin as you exfoliate. Alan Hayes in "It's So Natural Health Book" states that oatmeal is a natural exfoliant that also calms inflamed skin. Leave the oatmeal on the skin for 10 minutes before rinsing off.
Step 7
Pat the legs dry with a soft towel and slather natural cocoa butter on the legs. Allow the cocoa butter to sink into the legs, and do not rinse off. Cocoa butter has long been used as a folk remedy for reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Tips and Warnings
- Consult your dermatologist if your scars are still very noticeable after several weeks of natural treatment. She may recommend microdermabrasion or chemical peels to encourage new skin growth.
- A salt loofah scrub may cause a stinging sensation if used on broken skin.
