How to Lose Post Baby Belly Fat and Skin

After you have your baby, you may be anxious to lose excess belly fat and get back in shape. However, a new baby and the responsibilities of being a new parent can often get in the way. Losing your post baby belly fat may seem a little difficult, but with the right diet and exercise, you can get rid of the stubborn fat around your belly and look like a celebrity mom.

Step 1

Discuss your calorie intake with your doctor and determine how many calories you need daily based on your activity level. Even if you are breastfeeding, you only need an additional 500 calories each day.

Step 2

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. These foods are high in fiber and can increase your basal metabolic rate. They also provide you with all the essential minerals and vitamins. Eat only when you are hungry and avoid temptation by not keeping high fat foods and snacks in the house.

Step 3

Exercise. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Start slow with simple stretches, increasing your intensity to include at least 30 minutes of cardio exercise into your routine. Begin with light cardio such as walking, stationary cycling or swimming. As your stamina improves, gradually increase the length and intensity of your workouts until you see the fat beginning to melt. The American College of Sports Medicine notes that to lose weight or maintain weight loss, 60 to 90 minutes of physical activity may be necessary, 5 days a week. If you have trouble finding time to exercise, start by taking your baby for walks in the stroller.

Step 4

Perform targeted exercises such as situps and crunches. Both these exercises can help tone the muscles in your belly, so when you lose the excess belly fat, you stomach will have definition.

Step 5

Invite other new moms to join in your weight loss routine. According to MayoClinic.com, weight loss efforts are usually more successful when performed in a group.
