Balding can affect men and women alike. Bald spots on the head can be a normal part of male or female pattern baldness or a sign of alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is a condition in which the white blood cells responsible for fighting off foreign bacteria mistakenly attack the hair follicle and kill it. In either case, bald spots can start to appear. There are ways to regrow the hair and treat either condition while taking care of the scalp to prevent further hair loss.
Step 1
Massage the area for five minutes daily. This will stimulate blood flow to the area and promote the follicles to function properly.
Step 2
Massage castor oil mixed with almond oil into the scalp. This will also stimulate blood flow and awaken sleeping follicles. This is also noted to add sheen and strength to existing hair.
Step 3
Take a vitamin supplement containing keratin and vitamin E. Keratin is an essential protein required for hair growth. Vitamin E not only stimulates growth but also keeps new hair healthy.
Step 4
Apply minoxidil to the bald spot. Minoxidil is available over the counter at most drugstores and most commonly goes by the brand name Rogaine. Minoxidil will cause hair to regrow by stimulating the dead hair follicle and making it active once again.
Step 5
Consult your physician to discuss the use of cortisone creams and oral medications that stimulate hair growth. Some medications cause a chemical sensitivity that will increase hair growth from dead and living follicles.
Tips and Warnings
- If you do not experience hair regrowth, hair plugs can help cover the bald spot. Consult your dermatologist if home remedies or prescription medications fail to work.
