Hi, this is Linda Mandelbaum, and today we're going to take a look at the healthiest types of instant oatmeal. Oatmeal is one of the healthiest breakfast options, but not all instant oatmeal is created equal. Some of them can be loaded with plenty of sugar and believe it or not, even fail to incorporate whole grains. So, nevertheless, it is a wonderful breakfast, breakfast option, but it is certainly very important to know what to look for. So, the first thing we're going to look for is we're going to make sure that our first ingredients going to say oats, rolled oats, whole grain rolled oats; this is very important. Without that being the first ingredient, then you will not get the same health benefits as you would get from other oatmeal. So, very important to check that on the label to make sure that it says that. The second thing that you want to look for is the amount of fiber. It's got to have at least three grams of fiber or more. And the reason you want this fiber is to help you stay full longer. And because of the processing of instant oatmeal, the oatmeal gets processed in your body as well faster, and that's why you don't stay full as long as you might if you didn't use instant oatmeal compared to regular slow cooking oatmeal. Instant oatmeal is so wonderful, you just need to put in a half a cup of boiling water, you stir it up, let it sit maybe a minute. You can make it as thick or as liquidy as you like. Once it sits for a minute, it's, it's good to go.
