I'm Beth Hoover, and today I'm going to show you how to build abdominal muscles using dumbbells. Using dumbbells is a great way to add additional resistance for abdominal exercise. Traditionally your exercises are performed on the floor. But today I'm going to show you a couple of exercises that you can do standing. The first exercise we're going to use one dumbbell. You are going to lift the dumbbell above your head keeping the abs nice and tight and the back straight. We're going to lower the dumbbell and bringing the knee up at the same time. And then switch sides going to the opposite side. Now when you are performing these you want to make sure that you are crunching forward, tucking in the abdominals and breathing. Adding the balance of pulling the knee up towards the chest is also working the core at the same time. For the second exercise we're going to start with the weight above our head. And we are going to work on the obliques. Taking the weight to the side in a lateral movement we are going to bring the knee up in a lateral position as well. Both of these exercises are great alternatives to crunches on the floor with dumbbells.
