Flomaxtra, a brand name for the generic drug tamulosin, is a prescription medication used to alleviate symptoms of a condition called benign prostatic hyperlasia, or BPH, in men. This treatment is part of a class of medications called alpha-blockers and works by relaxing the muscles within the prostate. In the United States, this medication is marketed under the brand name Flomax.

Stomach Upset

Men receiving treatment with this medication can experience an upset stomach as a side effect of treatment, according to Drugs.com, a peer-reviewed drug information website for consumers. Stomach upset symptoms can be uncomfortable and include nausea or vomiting. Certain men also experience bowel movement changes, such as constipation or diarrhea, which may contribute to abdominal cramping, pain or bloating.

Drowsiness or Lightheadedness

While receiving treatment with Flomaxtra, certain men can experience sensations of drowsiness or lightheadedness. These sensations may be most apparent when attempting to stand or sit up quickly, according to the Better Health Channel, a health information website supported by the Australian government. Patients should remain seated until sensations of dizziness pass in order to prevent further complications from tripping or falling. If side effects of dizziness persist or become worse during Flomaxtra treatment, speak with a doctor.

Sinus Inflammation

Sinus inflammation can occur as a side effect of Flomaxtra treatment in certain men. This side effect can lead to nasal congestion, sneezing or difficulty breathing through the nasal passageways. Contact a doctor if sinus inflammation occurs in conjunction with side effects of fever or sore throat, as these symptoms can be indicative of an alternate medical condition.

Decreased Sexual Libido

While receiving treatment with Flomaxtra, certain men may experience a decrease in sexual drive or desire. It may be difficult for a male patient to become aroused during sexual stimulation, which may contribute to a decreased interest in sexual activities. Certain men may experience retrograde ejaculation upon orgasm--a condition in which the ejaculate is not expelled from the body but instead runs into the bladder, according to Drugs.com. Rarely, a male patient taking Flomaxtra can experience a prolonged or painful erection. If such side effects occur, seek medical care immediately for further evaluation and care.

Skin Rash

Treatment with Flomaxtra can cause a skin rash to develop as a side effect. Men may notice the appearance of red, irritated patches of skin across the body, which may begin to itch. A severe skin rash accompanied by facial swelling may be indicative of a severe allergic reaction to the active ingredient within this medication and requires immediate medical intervention.
