Using testosterone supplements is a popular way to gain lean muscle mass, lower your body fat percentage and gain strength. However, having abnormally high testosterone levels can affect your body negatively, so you'll want to consider taking some of the following supplements to prevent any side effects. You should consult your physician before taking testosterone supplements, or any other supplements, at home.

Red Yeast Rice

Testosterone supplements can alter your blood lipid profile and cholesterol levels. In order to correct this, you can use a red yeast rice supplement. A study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition established that red yeast rice can lower total and LDL, or "bad" cholesterol levels without altering HDL, or "good" cholesterol.

Hawthorn Berry

Also known as Crataegus laevigata or simply Crataegus, hawthorn berry supplements may improve and prevent against heart conditions. A research review from England's University of Exeter and Plymouth found that hawthorn berry could be effective in easing symptoms of heart conditions as serious as congestive heart failure. The research indicated that hawthorn berry supplementation decreased cardiac oxygen consumption and feelings of fatigue and shortness of breath.

Idebenone

Idebenone offers a variety of benefits to those taking testosterone. First, idebenone acts as an antioxidant, which means it can protect the body against cellular stress, such as that caused by strenuous exercise. In addition, a study from the journal Free Radical Research found that idebenone can improve cardiac function.

Celery Seed Extract

Celery seed extract, also known as Apium graveolens, has a variety of benefits. One benefit that is of particular interest to those taking testosterone supplements is its hepatoprotective activity, or liver protection. A study from the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that celery seed extract is effective in battling toxicity in the liver and liver damage in rats.

Milk Thistle Extract

Because protein and testosterone supplements are processed by the liver, testosterone use can induce stress on the liver. However, a study from the University of Washington found that milk thistle extract works as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and also protects against liver damage.
