According to the Mayo Clinic, hair loss is a natural part of aging, though it can also be caused by irritation of the hair follicles or hormonal changes. However, there are some natural remedies that can help your hair to grow faster. While proponents of these natural remedies claim that they work, these claims have not been evaluated by the FDA, so you should consult your doctor before starting any new hair growth treatment.
Apple Cider Vinegar
According to Paul C. Bragg, author of "The Miracles of Apple Cider Vinegar Health System," apple cider vinegar can be consumed and applied to the scalp in order to help speed up natural hair growth. Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with eight-ounces of water and drink the mixture four times daily. To use natural apple cider vinegar directly on the scalp, make a mixture that is 16 ounces of distilled water with four tablespoons apple cider vinegar. In the shower, pour the mixture over the hair and gently massage the scalp for two to three minutes. Rinse your hair with cool water and dry gently without the use of heat. According to Bragg, both the internal and external treatments should be done daily as needed.
Olive Oil and Citrus Juice
According to Jethro Kloss, author of ""Back to Eden: Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Food and Home Remedies Since 1939," a mixture of olive oil and citrus juice can be used on the scalp to help grow hair faster. To use olive oil and citrus juice on the scalp, make a mixture of four tablespoons olive oil and one tablespoon lemon or lime juice in a small container or measuring cup. Gently massage the mixture into the scalp for three to five minutes before rinsing the hair with cool water and washing with a gentle shampoo to remove any sugars from the citrus juice. Let your hair dry naturally without using a blow dryer. This remedy can be done daily as long as it does not cause irritation on the scalp or skin. Note that you should use only 100 percent pure olive oil, as olive oil that has added ingredients, such as soybean oil, may not be as effective.
Flax Seed Oil and Vitamin E Oil
Flax seed oil and vitamin E oil is a common home remedy for hair loss that can help hair to grow faster than usual, according to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care." To use flax seed oil and vitamin E oil for hair growth, mix three tablespoons flax seed oil and two tablespoons vitamin E oil in a small container. Gently massage the mixture into the scalp for five minutes before rinsing with cool water and shampooing with a gentle cleanser and applying a moisturizing conditioner. This treatment can be repeated daily, as needed. Note that you should use only natural flax seed oil and vitamin E oil, as products with added ingredients may irritate the skin or be less effective.
